Наконец-то я узнала хоть что-то о "страшном Саакашвили" из уст самих грузин. Точнее, одного грузина. Кому интересно...
OK, the situation in Kiev and UA is little bit different than it was before the rose revolution in Georgia. In general everything started from the parliamentary elections, when governmental party facilitated the results and than opposition started to become more active. Opposition leaded by Saakashvili made possible to arrnage another cycle of elections (and of course his party got 87 %) but after a while opposition made President Shevardnadze to resign and as you see new elections for the president was held, where he had no competitors at all.
Thus, situation is different but is very same. At this moment UA opposition has the same request towards Ianukovich than our opposition had with Shevardandze, and the demonstrations, concerts, and all the things you see in Kiev are 100% similar (and I want to say more organized then here) to ours.
Please don't believe the people saying the "Do you want to live like Georgians?" This is a propaganda against democracy and independence. Of course some people may thinks that revolution is bad, and it maybe (depends on result) be true, because all the things must be solved according to the legislation, but when gov. is taking this chance from you than................Yes, we had same thing. People were afraid of what will happen after the Shevardnadze (and as you see Saakashvili is more energetic, inteligent and seems "crazy" and people were afraid to have this kind of
president) but he and his team made possible in the very short period of time:
- Police Reform is almost implemented (Traffic police don't exist in Georgia anymore, most corrupt body of the government). In general 15 000 traffic police were sent home and new Patrol Police with new cars in all cities were imported from Germany, new young and motivated, educated people + old professionals were recruited through the merit based competition. Now no one is stoping you and the car without argument and everything in this direction is going smothly.
- Military Development. Military spirit in Geogria was dead during past governemnmt. Now, not only young generation got a stimul to serve the army, but the children of very rich families, even parliamenrians are having 1 month military trainings (why I am paying attention to this? becouse we have conflict on our teritory and are missing Georgian land: Abkhazia and Osetia).
- Education reform and its funding increased 3 times for next year. From next year, and starting from 2006 education system will be European and American mixed and no more soviet managment, studnet shcolarship system anymore. This is a great step, but is having many difficulties from conservatory professors. I called them, red profesura and red intiligencia.
- Roads are reparing, Georgia's promotions as a tourist country is on the way.
- New European symbols are entering the country.
- All pentions are covered on time every month (Before that people were not getting pansions for a monthes, somtimes 6-7 month).
- Corruption is limited. I am not saying that there are no corruption, but you can't feel. maybe you may encounter in a big level.
- New tax code will be effective form new year, which will be most liberal codex in Eastern Europe. Thus attracting new investments and companies in Georgia.
- Georgia tave a direction to enter 1st in NATO and than in EU. So, we know where we are going. We are not looking to be political partners with Russia but are looking to be reliable and great neigbors and friends with this country and have economic-cultural relations.
- New construction started in the country.
- and one of the best things is that Georgians now feel united as never before during this 12 year period.
And there are many things are to say. I don't want to overload and make the list berried. People saying this things who are just afraid of changes, and Russian media and politicians are working hard to promote this message among Ukrainians. So, things are going OK in Georgia. I always say to this kind of people. "What is bad at this moment which was not during past government"?
Only thing is that because of reforms many people are loosing jobs (mostly corrupt people) and this may cause some social problems. But comparing to the last year, this year state budget increased twice, which is a very big achievement, teritorial integrity of Georgia is getting better and are looking to start negotiations with Abkhazia and Osetia (our conflict zones).
If there will be one team, and Iushenko will have a support from the parliament he will achieve a lot, but there will be many problems in the way, sometimes you may say that everything's is the same, but soon, in 1 or
2 years you will feel changes, otherwise government who came from citizen support will not be allowed to do something wrong, against the nation, maybe their will do some mistakes only. So, to be in short please don't pay attention to this rumors, we had same. Even that Georgia will be breaking into parts and regions, seaside part of Georgia called Adjara will go to Turkey or Russia, etc. But people see that everything went well, so this is a tachtic of political, black campaign.
Very warm regards. Actually my friends visited Kiev last week and they were very happy that evrything is going very organized. I am with you guys, and evry day is watching 5 chanel and news about Ukraine.
Cheers and for Ukrainians from Georgia.

Date: 2004-12-08 04:42 pm (UTC)
